Infrastructure projects such as new expressways and facilities at tourist sites significantly enhance tourism and create more job opportunities, stated Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Mr. Nitin Gadkari on Friday. In a message delivered at a conference organized by the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) in Goa, he underscored the hospitality sector’s vital role in driving the country’s economic growth. His message, read out on the conference’s second day, emphasized the government’s commitment to developing religious and tourist destinations, asserting that the Union government is currently advancing 18 additional tourist projects, many of which are nearing completion.
Director General of Tourism at the Union Ministry of Tourism, Ms. Mugdha Sinha, highlighted the importance of rethinking strategies to attract international wedding tourism. She suggested that improved direct flight connectivity, streamlined visa processes, and uniquely curated itineraries could position India as a premier wedding destination. With 54% of individuals in India spending over US$ 11,890 (Rs. 10 lakh) on weddings and an average guest size of 525, the ‘Big Fat Indian Wedding’ represents a significant economic force. Chief Managing Director of Royal Orchid Hotels, Mr. Chander Baljee, further stressed the necessity for hospitality businesses to remain agile and embrace digitalization to maintain a competitive edge in this evolving landscape.
