A thin layer of smog engulfed the national capital on Saturday, November 2, as the air quality continues to deteriorate. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Saturday.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) at Anand Vihar and surrounding area at 9 am was recorded at 383, plunging to the ‘very poor’ category.

The AQI at Vivek Vihar stood at 318, Wazippur at 313, RK Puram at 350 and Punjabi Bagh at 329, all under the ‘very poor’ category. At Lodhi Road, the air quality stood at 224, while ITO saw an AQI of 241. At Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium AQI dropped to 285 and Najafgarh at 393, all in the ‘poor’ category.

As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the air quality in the national capital is likely to be in the upper end of ‘very poor’ category from November 2 to November 4, 2024.

According to CPCB, the Air Quality Index scale categorizes AQI values between 0-50 as ‘good’, 51-100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 as ‘moderate’, 201-300 as ‘poor’, 301-400 as ‘very poor’, and 401-500 as ‘severe’.

The AQI measures under the ‘very poor’ category can cause respiratory illness on prolonged exposure while the AQI under the ‘poor’ category can affect healthy people and seriously impact those with existing diseases.

Meanwhile, a layer of toxic foam was also seen floating on the Yamuna River in Kalindi Kunj on Saturday, as the pollution level in the river remained high.

The temperature in the national capital on Saturday stood at 28.95°C. According to the weather forecast, the city saw a minimum temperature of 19.05°C and a maximum temperature of 33.8°C. The relative humidity is 26%, while the wind speed is 26 kilometres per hour.
