Hiring in power, energy sector in country witnesses 9% growth in the first half of FY25

According to a recent report, hiring activity in the power and energy sector increased by 9.01% in the first half of FY25 compared to the same period last year, reflecting the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. India’s energy sector is undergoing a significant transformation aligned with this goal, as indicated by the notable 9.01% net employment growth. This trend is driven by major government initiatives aimed at a low-carbon future, as highlighted in TeamLease Services’ ‘Employment Outlook Report’ for the first half of FY25. The report, covering the period from April to September 2024-25, is based on a survey of 1,417 employers across 23 industries.

The report reveals that Delhi leads existing job locations with 56%, followed by Bengaluru at 53% and Mumbai at 52%. Jaipur is a key location for new jobs at 14%, with Bengaluru, Chennai, and Vadodara tied at 13%. This trend indicates growth in established metros while showcasing emerging opportunities in Tier II cities, likely driven by infrastructure development, policy incentives, and renewable energy expansion. “The 9.01% net employment change in the power and energy sector signifies a clear path towards a greener future. With 62% of industry participants expanding their workforce and leading cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai driving this change, we observe a remarkable shift in energy production and consumption,” said Chief Strategy Officer at TeamLease Services, Mr. Subburathinam P. He added that the government’s growing focus on green energy initiatives, industry 4.0, and systemic decarbonization propels workforce growth in the sector, contributing to environmental goals and economic growth through job creation. Engineering positions are in the highest demand, with 67% of respondents indicating growth, followed by sales roles at 60%, reflecting the sector’s emphasis on expanding market reach and enhancing technical capabilities. Additionally, the rapid growth of the EV and EV infrastructure industry, driven by premiumization and competition, significantly contributes to employment growth, reinforcing the sector’s trajectory towards a sustainable and low-carbon future.
