Man arrested by Nagpur police sent 35 bomb threat emails

After five days of questioning, Jagdish Uike, a resident of Arjuni Morgaon in Gondia district, eastern Maharashtra, who was arrested by Nagpur Police on October 30, will now be sent to judicial custody.

The police booked Uike under Section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for sending hoax bomb threats to airlines, trains, the Railway Minister & the CM & Deputy CM of Maharashtra.

Section 353(1) BNS is a legal provision designed to tackle the dissemination of false or misleading statements. This section applies to anyone who makes, publishes, or circulates information that can lead to public mischief.


Accoridng to Nagpur DCP Lohit Matani, Uike sent 35 emails threatening to blow up flights, trains, market places & railway stations.

He used his personal email, mobile and also typed out the threat letters from cyber cafes, DCP Matani added.

As per the police, Uike’s motive behind the bomb hoaxes appears to be a stunt to gain publicity and draw attention to his book on terrorism.

The police are now looking to seize the computers which he has used at the cyber cafes.

Uike will be now be sent to judicial custody for further investigation and proceedings, DCP Matani told CNBC-TV18.
