Although Trump has been projected as the winner, it will still take time before Trump takes charge of the White House.
When does Trump take office?
The US Congress will be validating the electoral results on January 6, 2025.
Thereafter, the President-elect will be sworn in at the inauguration ceremony, which takes place on January 20, 2025.
The presidential inauguration always takes place on this date after elections, as specified by the Constitution’s 20th Amendment, CBS News reported.
Trump, who is currently the president-elect, will become the 47th President of the US. He is expected to move into the White House immediately after the ceremony.
What happens on January 20
The inauguration ceremony, which usually takes place two and half months after election day, starts with a procession to the Capitol, as per the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
At first, the Vice President is required to recite his oath of office. Thereafter, the new President is sworn in at around noon, reports said.
The President gives an inaugural address, which usually outlines his/her vision and goals for the term.
Following this speech, the previous president makes an honorary departure from the Capitol, while a signing ceremony is done as the new President signs their first official actions.
