EC resolves 6,381 election code complaints in Maharashtra, seizes assets worth ₹536 crore ahead of polls

The Election Commission (EC) has resolved 6,381 complaints related to Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations in Maharashtra over the past month, with only one case pending resolution, according to the Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

The Model Code of Conduct is a regulatory framework established by the EC, outlining acceptable conduct for political parties and candidates during election campaigns and polling.

The EC’s seizure campaign began on October 15 and focused on preventing voter inducements through cash or goods distribution. This enforcement action has so far resulted in confiscating assets valued at 536.45 crore, including illegal money and contraband, to ensure a fair voting process.

These complaints, recorded through the cVIGIL mobile app, were filed between October 15 and November 14, following the implementation of the MCC with the announcement of the election schedule.

The EC’s cVIGIL app allows citizens to report suspected MCC breaches in real time, offering the public a way to actively participate in maintaining fair election practices.

The process for each complaint involves swift investigation by a designated team, which then initiates necessary action against those found violating the MCC guidelines.

Maharashtra is set to hold its assembly polls on November 20, and these measures are part of the EC’s broader mission to uphold electoral integrity.
