India and Italy have launched an ambitious five-year strategic action plan following detailed discussions between Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart, Prime Minister Ms. Giorgia Meloni. The 2025-29 plan focuses on enhancing bilateral ties in 10 key areas, including economic cooperation, energy transition, defence, security, space, trade, connectivity, migration, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges. The plan also underscores the countries’ commitment to working on multilateral platforms to uphold shared democratic values, the rule of law, and sustainable development. The talks, held on the sidelines of the G20 summit, continued the ongoing dialogue between the two nations, marking their fifth meeting in the last two years.
Under the strategic action plan, India and Italy aim to foster collaborations in science and technology, new and emerging technologies, clean energy, space, defence, and connectivity. Regular ministerial and official dialogues will strengthen the partnership across various domains. Both leaders also emphasised the importance of co-production, innovation, and mobility between industries and institutions, which would benefit the economies and people of both countries. Furthermore, they reiterated their support for plurilateral initiatives such as the Global Biofuels Alliance and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, of which they are founding members. These collaborative efforts aim to deepen the India-Italy strategic partnership and provide mutual benefits in the coming years.
