APEDA facilitates India’s first commercial trial shipment of Sangola pomegranates to the US via sea.

India marked a significant achievement on February 28, 2024, as it successfully initiated the first commercial trial shipment of Pomegranates to the United States by sea, organized by the Agricultural Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and executed by InI Farms. The event saw the flagging of 4,200 boxes (12.6 tons) of Pomegranates from the IFC facility in MSAMB, Vashi (Navi Mumbai). This strategic move aims to establish trade relations for Indian Pomegranates in the US market. APEDA’s efforts, complemented by InI Farms’ expertise as a leading fruit and vegetable exporter, have showcased India’s prowess in agricultural exports and elevated the economic prospects for farmers, evident in the premium received, notably higher than other markets.

India’s emergence as one of the largest global Pomegranate producers has fuelled ambitions to become a top exporter. Following a successful air shipment, the sea trial aligns with this goal and reflects APEDA’s dedication to surmounting supply chain challenges. The Pomegranate sector, a major contributor to India’s agricultural landscape, holds substantial potential for global trade. APEDA’s initiatives, such as Export Promotion Forums (EPF) for Pomegranate, are instrumental in streamlining exports. This sea consignment signifies a pivotal step in expanding India’s agricultural exports and serves as a testament to the nation’s commitment to ensuring quality assurance and fostering trust with global importers.
