Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, among others, were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Murthy is a 1989 batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre. He has succeeded Girish Chandra Murmu. Before being appointed as the CAG, Murmu was the first Lieutenant-Governor of the new Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir.
Murthy graduated in engineering and passed the civil services examination of the Union Public Service Commission in 1988. He was appointed as the IAS of Himachal cadre and worked for 13 years in various capacities.
Between 2002 and 2007, he was on central deputation, serving in the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
He had also worked at the National Institute for Smart Government (NISG) in Hyderabad.
From 2011 to 2013, Murthy held key roles in the Departments of Primary Education, Higher Education, and Technical Education in Himachal Pradesh. He also served as Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Housing, and Urban Development for one year.
The last position held by Murthy was the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
Murthy has wide experience in governance, administration, and financial management, making him a suitable candidate to assume the office of CAG.
