Devendra Fadnavis takes oath as Maharashtra CM, Ajit Pawar, Eknath Shinde sworn in as Deputies

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister for the third time at a grand ceremony at Azad Maidan on Thursday, December 5. NCP chief Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended the ceremony, congratulated Fadnavis, Shinde, and Pawar on their appointments.

After the ceremony, Fadnavis met with Governor Radhakrishnan and PM Modi, posing for a photograph alongside his deputies, Shinde and Pawar.

The event saw a significant turnout of political leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel. Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states, along with several Union ministers and NDA leaders, were also present.

Industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Kumarmangalam Birla, Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor, and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar were also in attendance.

Fadnavis, 54, who represents Nagpur South West constituency, led the BJP to a strong victory, securing 132 seats in the 288-member Assembly. The BJP-led Mahayuti coalition, including Shiv Sena and NCP, holds a commanding majority with 230 seats.

More than 42,000 people attended the event, with extensive security arrangements in place, including over 4,000 police personnel.

According to BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar, other cabinet ministers are expected to take oath before the winter session of the Assembly begins.

The swearing-in marks the culmination of intense negotiations among the Mahayuti allies following the assembly election results on November 23. With this swearing-in, the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, has solidified its position in the Maharashtra Assembly.
