Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Ronanki Kurmanath on December 8, Sunday, sounded a note of caution for farmers in the State in view of the developing weather system in the Bay of Bengal.
The low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean. with the associated cyclonic circulation, persists. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the next 24 hours, an afternoon bulletin from the India Meteorological Department said.
It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards thereafter and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri-Lanka – Tamil Nadu coasts around December 11.
This may trigger moderate to heavy rainfall at a few places in the State from December 9 to 15, it said. Rains are expected in the districts of Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam and Rayalaseema.
Farmers are advised to take all precautions and harvest the crops beforehand to avoid damage.
