IBLA 2024: Hall of Fame—KP Singh

In the tapestry of India’s economic evolution, one figure stands tall—an architect not just of buildings, but of modern urban landscapes that have transformed India’s skyline and cemented the young, aspirational Indian’s dream of owning a home.

When Kushal Pal Singh joined DLF in the 1960s, he saw beyond concrete structures. He saw potential in the vast, untamed land that was India… and he saw the potential in a bold idea: turning Gurgaon into India’s premier corporate hub.

It didn’t matter that his vision was obstructed by policy roadblocks. KP Singh pursued and secured reforms that transformed India’s real estate landscape and converted thousands of acres into what is now known as DLF City—an area that has attracted global corporations, including Fortune 500 companies and some of the world’s biggest names including General Electric. His contributions echo far beyond Gurgaon, spanning the entirety of India’s development story.

In 2007, he steered DLF into new territory by taking it public. DLF was India’s largest IPO, raising a staggering $2.2 billion. Under his guidance, this real estate company has become a juggernaut, with a market capitalisation of ₹2,10,426 crore and revenues of 6,958 crore (FY24).

But KP Singh’s legacy extends beyond business. The DLF Foundation, which he spearheaded and set up, supports education, health, and skill development for thousands.
