Bharathidasan University’s Centre of Distance and Online Education (CDOE) has planned to hire education technology service providers (TSPs) to provide learning management system (LMS) support for its online programmes.
It has invited ‘expression of interest’ from TSPs to be submitted through its official website www.bdu.ac.in/cde on or before January 13.
According to an official statement, the LMS platform service falls under the ‘Platform as a Service’ (PaaS) model as per the UGC guidelines for institutional development plan for higher education institutions.
LMS is an online platform that helps plan, deliver, and track educational and training programmes. Official sources said that tapping TSPs for LMS support would help students to opt for online education from remote locations and also help CDOE streamline its operations through a secure gateway.
“This year, we have had an enrolment of 40 candidates, and overall we have a student strength of approximately one lakh students. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has tightened its rules, so we are modifying our portal in order to start calendar year admissions later this month, and go up to March.” CDOE director K. Thamaraiselvi, told The Hindu.
The centre conducts admissions twice a year, based on UGC norms. “The calendar year admissions (from January) are meant to help in-service professionals who may wish to shift from regular studies to distance learning; the enrolments are higher during the academic year admissions from July,” Ms. Thamaraiselvi added.
At present, CDOE offers 41 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through online and distance learning (ODL) mode and 10 courses through online learning (OL).
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme is among the centre’s most popular courses.
