Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday (January 6, 2025) alleged that there is large scale scam happening to manipulate the electoral roll of the New Delhi Assembly constituency and sought an immediate inquiry into the matter.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal is the current MLA from the New Delhi Assembly constituency and the Delhi Assembly election is due in February.
Addressing a press conference, Ms. Atishi said, “Yesterday, I wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner, with all these details, on how the large scale voter scam is happening in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. We have also asked for time to meet the Chief Election Commissioner. There should be an immediate inquiry into the large scale voter scam happening in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.”
Ms. Atishi said that a summary revision of the electoral roll was done by the Election Commission and after that, there have been a large number of applications to add and delete voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
“There is a conspiracy to manipulate the election (in the New Delhi Assembly constituency) by adding about 10% new voters and deleting 5.77% voters,” she said.
“Out of the 6,167 applications for voter deletion, 4,283 applications to delete votes were filed by merely 84 people. The expose of this scam is that, when these 84 people were called for hearing by the election commission after sending notices, all of these objectors came for the hearing and said that ‘we did not file any applications’,” she said.
She alleged that fake applications are being filed to (delete names from the voter list) and there is a conspiracy to manipulate the electoral roll and the role of election commission officials is also suspicious.
