The Namakkal District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) directed a car company to provide a new car with ₹3 lakh compensation for a customer for selling a car with manufacturing defects.
A.G. Saravanakumar (43), a resident of Thottiyapatti near Rasipuram, bought a new car by paying ₹20.03 lakh in a showroom in Namakkal in October 2020. But within a month, the car paint started to fade. He approached the showroom and they directed him to provide the car in a service centre in Salem. After one month of service, the car was again handed over to the customer, but the paint issue continued. Following this, he demanded the showroom to provide a new car, but it was denied by the car company.
He filed a case against the car company and the dealer at Namakkal DCDRC. Investigating the case, DCDRC commissioner V. Ramaraj directed the car manufacturing company to provide a new car to the customer or return the money he paid for the car with 9% interest calculated from the date of payment made. For causing mental agony, the car company is to give ₹3 lakh in compensation to the customer within four weeks, the DCDRC added in its order.
