Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, launched the second phase of the KIRTI (Khelo India Rising Talent Identification) programme at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The event was attended by Hon’ble Member of Parliament Mr. Manoj Tiwari, Ms. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, eminent athletes, senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and MCD school children. He highlighted India’s rich diversity and potential, stating that talent exists in cities and remote areas like the North-East, Coastal, Himalayan, and tribal regions. He emphasised that KIRTI aims to identify and nurture these athletes, contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global sports superpower.
He outlined the Government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure, noting that recent successes in global championships, including the Olympics, reflect this focus. The KIRTI program is set to identify 100,000 athletes within 100 days and provide opportunities for all, regardless of location or background. The program aims to place India among the top 5 Olympic nations by 2047. The KIRTI model, employing IT tools and global best practices, will conduct assessments for over 25,000 MCD students across Delhi in five major disciplines. The third phase of KIRTI will include all 20 disciplines under the Khelo India scheme.
