“The Indian government wants to develop its defence manufacturing capability with the help of the US, but there are concerns about technology transfer and security,” Shringla stated. He emphasised establishing a robust framework for defence contracts between the two nations.
“Any defence contract between India and the US should have safeguards built in to prevent impact from changes in US administration,” he added.
Shringla highlighted that national security is India’s top priority, citing the urgent need for collaboration in the aircraft engineering and engine manufacturing sectors.
Despite the uncertainties that the US presidential elections may bring, the ambassador expressed confidence that the US and India will maintain their collaborative efforts on strategic issues. “We believe that our strategic relationship will endure and continue to grow, regardless of who wins the presidency,” he remarked.
