India’s highest FPI comes from the US, followed by Luxembourg and Canada: SEBI

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) report reveals that the United States held India’s largest share of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) during FY24. As of March 31, 2024, the total number of registered FPIs in India reached 11,219, slightly increasing from the previous year’s 11,081. The United States led this group with 3,457 registered investors, followed by Luxembourg with 1,393 and Canada with 804.

The report also provided an in-depth analysis of FPIs’ Assets Under Custody (AUC), which saw a significant rise. As of March 31, 2024, the AUC of FPIs grew by 42.8% to US$ 828.17 billion (Rs. 69.5 lakh crore), up from US$ 580.31 billion (Rs. 48.7 lakh crore) a year earlier, reflecting increased foreign investor confidence in India’s markets. Equity assets comprised 92.2% of the total AUC, with the USA contributing 39.2%, Singapore 9.8%, and Luxembourg 7.1%. SEBI also noted that FPI inflows during 2023-24 were the highest since 1992-93, underscoring the importance of foreign portfolio and venture capital investments in India’s economic growth.
