Himachal Pradesh BJYM workers hold ‘samosa march’: All you need to know about the controversy

The state politics in Himachal Pradesh has a new player — a samosa. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers organised a ‘Samosa’ march in Shimla on Saturday, November 9. In a video posted on X by news agency ANI, the BJYM protesters gathered on the streets with a poster of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to protest his government. The protest was sparked by a reported CID probe into samosas and cake meant for CM Sukhu but mistakenly delivered to his workers.

In the clip, they were seen offering samosa to the chief minister’s poster, while chanting slogans such as “Sukhu ka Samosa kisne khaya?” (“Who ate Sukhu’s samosa?”) and “Samosa sarkar murdabad: (“Down with the samosa government”).

The BJYM workers also demanded Sukhu resign and take a break, chanting “Sukhu tum ek kam karo, kursi chhodo aram karo” (“Sukhu, do one thing, leave your seat and take rest”).

As the investigation sparked outrage, the CM stated that the probe was about an incident of misbehaviour, blaming the media for the miscommunication. Speaking to ANI on Friday, he said, “There is no such thing. It (CID) got involved in the issue of misbehaviour, but you (the media) are running news about ‘samosa’.”

Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha, Deputy General CID, said that it was an internal matter and should not be politicised.

“This is completely an internal matter of the CID. It should not be politicised. The CM does not eat samosas. We have not given notice to anyone. We just want to find out what happened. The government has nothing to do with this… We will find out how this information was leaked,” Ojha added.

The state CID has launched an investigation to determine how samosas and cake were mistakenly served to his staff. The alleged incident took place on October 21 during a program at the CID headquarters where the CM visited to inaugurate the Cyber wing’s new station.

However, the samosas and cake intended for the Chief Minister were served to his staff, sparking an internal CID investigation.
