At the inauguration, Adityanath encouraged youngsters to purchase at least one book at the festival to foster a habit of reading. He said that the literary experience along the banks of Gomti River is vibrant and this will encourage all to engage in reading quality books.
Highlighting the challenges posed by the digital age, Adityanath expressed concerns over increasing screen time among the youth. He noted that many young people are spending up to six hours a day on smartphones or other digital devices.
“If this time is spent on productive activities, it could be much more beneficial for both society and the youth,” he said, according to PTI and stressed the importance of using technology wisely. “We should use technology, but not become its slaves,” he added.

The Chief Minister also reflected on the rich heritage of India’s knowledge traditions, emphasising the importance of ‘shruti’ (sacred knowledge passed down through oral tradition). He spoke of how ancient sages preserved knowledge at revered places like Naimisharanya, which continues to be a pilgrimage site to this day.
Adityanath took pride in Uttar Pradesh’s legacy, pointing to the region’s contribution to Indian literature and culture, including the works of revered poets such as Maharishi Valmiki and Tulsidas. He remarked, “The Ramcharitmanas is sung in every household,” and noted that the “Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta,” one of the finest works of knowledge, was written on the battlefield.
The Chief Minister further encouraged the preservation and celebration of India’s literary heritage. “We should be proud of our heritage and literature and cherish it,” he said.
As a final suggestion, Adityanath proposed that book fairs be organised across all 18 divisions of Uttar Pradesh, aiming to encourage a love of reading throughout the state.

“Books broaden our thinking and enhance our awareness of society. We must inspire the next generation to embrace this,” he said, underscoring the importance of books in shaping young minds and fostering social consciousness.
